The Event

Live + Virtual Smash and Mario Kart tournaments, live band, indie gaming stations, signature drinks, local Austin AAA and Indie developers and much more.  Our goal is to help Matthew raise funds for medical bills and expenses related to his condition.  There is no cover for the event and direct donations can be made on his GoFundMe page.

The Tournaments

Two Smash Brother's Tournaments, one competitive, one casual, plus an additional Mario Kart tournament.   There will be an entry fee of $10 per tournament.  The tournaments will be available to both live and virtual players (Relax, it's for charity!) and have a Prize Pool for the winners of $100, plus half of the tournament entry fees. The other half of the entry goes to support Matthew.

The Location

The live event will be held at Valhalla Esports Lounge in Austin, TX and in the GamerJibe virtual gaming lounge for everyone else who wants to participate and is not in Austin.  The live stream will be at Twitch.tv/joyplaygames.

The Time

Virtual event begins at 12PM on April 22 where we will be joined by local and remote gamers playing through some popular titles and games Matthew has been associated with developing.

At 5PM we will be switching to the feed live from Valhalla where we will be hosting the tournaments and entertainment until 9PM

At nine we will be switching back to the Virtual Stream to play some more games with streamers and viewers.

The Man in Need:

Matthew Nowacki is a triple-A video game designer. Rarely does one find someone so dedicated and in love with his craft. He pours himself completely into every project he touches, because to him, video games have the power to change the world. While he has had his share of struggles in life, you wouldn’t know that just by meeting him.

In November 2020, Matthew Nowacki received the news that his brain tumor had returned three years after treatment had successfully brought it into remission. In February 2021, he received the additional news that cancer developed in his thyroid. Now he is facing wrongful eviction on top of it all, in which the hearing for the eviction is to be determined.

All proceeds go directly to Matthew to cover medical bills, basic living expenses, and eviction/lawyer charges.
